Contests are in the air...

'Tis the season...for pimping friends! :)  So here are some places you can go to win free ebooks to keep you warm this fall.

Jessica Jarman is talking about our favorite fall things, and will be giving away an ebook from her backlist to a lucky commenter on her blog post. Contest is open until Monday, so no time to lose!

Shawn Lane's latest, The Beach House, will be (finally!) coming out on October 3rd, and she's having a giveaway on her blog. Simply comment HERE by September 30th. :)

And Sunday? End of the month? Must be Gay Day at Ethan Day's Yahoo group! Lots of giveaways, excerpts and craziness. Pop over anytime on Sunday, and make sure to comment on the giveaway thread. I won't be there this month, unfortunately, but I'm looking forward to October's Gay Day!

Edited to add:

Florida has taken another small step toward GLBT equality, overturning the ban on allowing gay couples to adopt, so to celebrate, Dreamspinner Press is offering all of their readers 20% off all their purchases for the entire weekend.

They are also giving away two signed, paperback copies of Her Two Dads, one Saturday and one Sunday, to commenters HERE.

Go forth and win!

Happy Anniversary to me ... BIG giveaway!

One year ago today, my first publication came out, Remarkable Restraint in the Games in the Dark anthology from Dreamspinner Press. I still love my two sexy, kinky guys, Chaz and Justin (and you too, Andy...your story is coming, I promise!), but boy, a lot of new books and characters have come along since then. So many so, it really rings nostalgic to me to go back and reread this one!

Now, I have 10 books out, another 4 releasing in the next two months (plus my first audio book), and contracts for a few more going into 2011. It's been quite a year, and I couldn't have done it without all of you!! A few specific shoutouts and thank you's:

Ava--for beta reading RR and offering so much of yourself time and time again

Shawn--for taking the time to befriend and mentor me along the way

Julianne--for liking RR enough to contract it and then become a dear and wise friend

Christine--for your constant cheerleading and loving my vamps enough to go to bat for #2, A Pint Light

Jess--for our endless chats, your patience with my muse, and awesome editing

Eyre, Chris and Lily--for your dedication to commenting on my blog

Shellie--for your positive attitude and lovely heart

And to all my other online friends, family, peers, readers and fans--thank you for your support!  I do it all for you!!

ON TO THE GIVEAWAYS!!

Yes, I put that in plural on purpose. I'll be giving away FOUR ebooks today!!

1) I will give a choice of ebook from my backlist to a random commenter on this blog post.

2) Another will go to one lucky commenter on Dreamspinner Press's blog.

3) I will choose one of my favorite places to hang out from the list below and a commenter at that site will win as well:

   Facebook
   Twitter @devonrhodes
   Ethan Day's Yahoo group
   Goodreads' M/M Romance group

4) If you pimp this contest and link back to it on your blog or other location (letting me know about it!), I will enter you in the fourth drawing!!

Pretty simple, and YES, you can enter all these ways for a greater chance of winning!

Good luck and thanks again!! :) Dev

Whew! One Down, One to Go.

Finally finished the world's most stubborn manuscript tonight. Sent it along to my editor who will be very happy to see it in the morning. :) I had meant to have it in a month ago (at least), but the story shifted on me. Twice. And I was helpless to shake it free until this week. So *big sigh of relief*--it's done. Put to bed. Finis.

Speaking of beds, I didn't let my fingers cool down before I started another story I'd been stewing about for a while now, whipped out 2K tonight (could probably write more but my eyes are burning). And it starts off with our hero getting woken up from a sound sleep by those words many adults know and dread:

“I threw up.”

The quavering voice brought Corbin jack-knifing up out of a sound sleep, struggling to get his bearings.

“Oh, for Christ sake.” This in a disgruntled mock whisper from Kenneth on the other side of the bed.

Well, that helped hone in on the participants a bit. And something was going to have to be done about Ken—soon—but first things first. He pulled Bailey into a hug, resting his cheek against her extremely hot temple. Oh man.

“Where’s your mom?”

“Don’t know. I threw up on my bed.” The tears were starting, and God knows that wouldn’t help matters any.

“Do you want to sleep with the throw up or should I change your sheets?”

A watery giggle. “Change them.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes! Uncle Corrry…”

“Okay, okay.” He stood, glad that he’d had the foresight to put his pajama pants on after he’d fielded the booty call that turned into a sleepover Ken probably wished he hadn’t insisted on. Picking Bailey up, man she was scorching all over, he walked her into the hall bathroom, trying to remember what his mom had done for them when they were sick...

Reviews for The Swap and General Busy-ness

I don't generally publish every review I see, but The Swap got a very nice review I enjoyed over at Obsidian Bookshelf today. I love Val's style, and what a treat to have it applied to me. Made my morning! :)

***Edited to add, just found another review by TJ over at Reviews by Jessewave from yesterday. My karma is on the rise, all this positive feedback is sure to get me over the hump! :)

Been working on two recalcitrant manuscripts which are stubbornly resisting my efforts to make them flow, which is one reason I haven't been posting much. But I'm determined to finished the first (and most frustrating) one by this weekend, and the other mid-next week. Meanwhile, I've also been doing some research on period details for a historical I'm plotting out, which has been fun but time-consuming. Not in a bad way, that sort of thing just absorbs my attention and somehow makes the clock skip ahead.

I'm getting through by telling myself once I get these two stories in the bag, I can diddle around with research and plotting to my heart's content! :)

Labor Day Giveaway, What Job Are You Glad You Don't Have Anymore??

In honor of Labor Day, I've decided to have a giveaway of my latest release, The Swap, part of Amber Quill's Working Stiffs collection.

Just leave a comment on this post about your worst/hardest/craziest job. Mine had to have been managing hotels. Between unplugging toilets, dealing with drunks and noise complaints at 3am, cleaning rooms and doing laundry when we were short on housekeepers, and dealing with cranky, rude people at the front desk (most of the time all of these in the same day), it was probably the most thankless job ever.

Tell me about your least favorite job sometime between now and Monday at midnight, and I'll draw a winner on Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, have a great holiday weekend!

PS, speaking of the holiday weekend, Dreamspinner Press is having a Labor Day sale, 20% off all purchases from Saturday to Monday. Good time to pick up any titles you might have on your TBB list!
