Happy Halloween Contest!

Some of my favorite things about Halloween:
  • All the campy horror movies I love are all over cable.
  • Squishing around in the innards of pumpkins--my hands are soo soft afterwards. Really!
  • Costumes--from the darling to the dark! My lovely, princessey-aged little girls are going as a Goth demon (complete with horns) and a skeleton. Just painted all our fingernails black. Which leads me to...
  • It's okay to send my girls to school with black nail polish and black lipstick on.
  • Pumpkin scones, pumpkin lattes, pumpkin donuts...
  • It holds Christmas decor at bay. Seriously, I think if there wasn't Halloween, the stores would have their displays up by August.
Speaking of contests, don't forget to enter the contest at Shawn Lane's blog for her upcoming release Manfred's Curse. Her black cat cover is purrr-fect for this time of year!

So back to my contest. You've all seen the horror movie compilation to Monster Mash on YouTube. If not, take a close look:

Got that?? Okay, now the person to correctly name the most movies shown in this clip by Midnight, Halloween night (MY time zone, Pacific time, which gives you plenty of time!), will be in the drawing to win their choice of ebook from my backlist, including my latest release, Pride and Joey. Send your entry to devonrhodes at hotmail dot com with Halloween Contest in the subject line by midnight Sunday for your chance to win! Good luck!

Pride and Joey has been released (into the wild...)

Couldn't resist the pun. Very happy that Pride and Joey is finally out today! And in honor of the occasion, here's the blurb with a new excerpt:

Vance thought his pride meant everything to him...until fate sent Joey into his lair and into his heart.

Vance grew up the odd one out in a macho and very insular pride of lion shifters. Differences like enjoying the cool fall weather are bad enough-his pridemates would kill him if they learned he was gay. Still, his pride is all he knows. He'd never even met a shifter of another type...until he discovers an unconscious cougar male in his lair.

Joey is on the run and wants to keep Vance at arm’s length, especially since someone very close to the lion is the root of all his troubles. But there is something irresistible about Vance, something which has Joey wanting more than he ever dared to dream.

When their lives are threatened, Joey must choose whether to sacrifice himself, or try to live and keep Vance close...for the very short remainder of his life.

*******

At once overwhelmingly curious about his visitor, Vance knelt again and slowly pulled the blanket completely away from the male’s head and upper body. And stared. The unconscious shifter was by far the most attractive man he’d ever seen. Accustomed to the huge, craggy features of his pride, he was entranced by the beautiful, angelic lines of his face. From checking his pupil reaction earlier, Vance knew his eyes were green—another anomaly. Almost every other shifter he’d met had some form of brown or golden eyes like himself.

His shoulders and chest were lightly muscled and defined—very masculine, but carrying a lot less bulk than Vance was used to seeing. A tattoo in some sort of abstract, tribal-looking design covered most of one deltoid. He was drawn to it, and after closer examination, he noticed how cleverly the form of a cat was woven into the seemingly random lines at the centre of the design.

His skin, too, was different. Very light, smooth-looking. Vance tested the shoulder with the tat. Yes, smooth and soft, with no discernable body hair below the neck—at least for the parts on display. Flushing, he had to restrain himself from removing the blanket entirely to check the rest of his person.

His colour deepened when he realised that he was still stroking the tattoo, and he quickly snatched his hand away. Needing something to keep himself occupied, he drew the blanket back over the male’s shoulders and stood restlessly. He decided to take inventory of his supplies, something he hadn’t bothered to do for a while. When it was just him, it didn’t matter. But a part of Vance nudged him, whispering that it was important to be prepared, that the male might be here a while.

Unused to company in his cave, Vance found his gaze drifting back to the huddled form as he worked. Frowning, he wondered whether the fire was doing any good at all. If he was drugged, he might not be able to regulate his temperature normally—in either direction.

Better check him—I mean, his temp out. Don’t want him uncomfortable. Part of him was gleeful about having a reason to touch the male again.

He’s unconscious, drugged, and most likely straight.

And gorgeous. Don’t forget gorgeous.

Stop it!

Vance knelt again by the male, the position becoming a familiar one. He raised a hand, thinking to feel the back of his guest’s neck to try to gauge his temperature. But just as he was about to make contact with the male’s exposed nape, he suddenly found himself flat on his back, a knee firmly pressed to his chest...

Fall...ing Giveaway and Excerpt

Simply leave a comment on this post anytime between now and Wednesday, Oct 20th, and you'll be entered to win a copy of Falling for the Other Brother, my latest Seasoned Women release.

See the previous post for the blurb and here's an extended excerpt to get you in the mood...

A cool waft of air on her shower-warm skin was the only warning Erica received before large hands cupped her bare shoulders. A smile curved her lips, but she didn’t react in any other fashion as she was pulled back flush against a hard male body. Or maybe she should say, a hardening male body.

She gave a little wiggle, bringing their bodies in closer alignment as her favourite rain-shower setting softly pelted them from above, with two slightly more forceful jets massaging from each side.

A muscular and extremely tanned arm reached past her to pluck the hand-held shower head from its holder.

“Picked up a little sun? I see you’ve been working hard.”

Trevor’s deep responding chuckle reverberated in her ear. “I always make time for play. In the Caribbean especially. And the shoot was on the beach.”

A popular and successful fitness model, Trevor did a lot of cover shoots and spreads for various magazines, as well as demonstrations for equipment. It had been one of these demo jobs, evidently staged on a tropical beach, he had just returned from.

“That must’ve been brutal.” Erica gave a shudder, partly from the thought of the unrelenting sun, and partly because, as she watched, Trevor was skimming his hand along her abdomen up to cup her breast. The contrast of her red-head’s pale skin with his sun-darkened fingers was startling and extremely erotic.

She felt his shrug. He never complained about the less romantic aspects of his job, but was just happy to be doing what he did. No false modesty or dissembling, he enjoyed using his fit body to make a living.

“It was fine. Not as hot as you might think, just sunny.”

Erica turned within his embrace and gave him a lingering welcome-back kiss. She was torn—glad to see him home early but dreading the conversation she had finally psyched herself up to initiate.

But not yet. Like Scarlett, she’d think about that tomorrow.

Firmly turning her mind from anything remotely cerebral, she instead lost herself in the hedonistic sensation of turning her pleasure over to the sexiest man she’d ever known. She knew the moment he sensed her acquiescence. The hands cruising over her slick back slid purposefully down to cup her buttocks. A satisfied hum in his throat was barely audible but somehow captured her focus.

Wanting to cause that sound again, she mirrored the movement of his hands. She could barely make a dent in his muscular ass, even when she gave a hard squeeze. Squeaking as he playfully returned the favour, the teasing evolved into a wet, sensuous game of follow-the-leader that soon had her panting with desire.

Erica was jarred from her reverie as Trevor abruptly ended the exploration and guided her to sit upon the ledge at the back of the walk-in shower. She jolted as her heated body touched the cool tile.

“Wha—”

“Shh. You’ll see,” Trevor cautioned, smirking as he adjusting the setting on the hand-held from shower to pulsing jet.

Oh my God. Erica moaned as he directed the spray across her sensitive peaks, twisting as he unrelentingly followed her movements with the almost torturous attention. She breathed a sigh of relief as he moved on, leaving her nipples aching in his wake, and continued upwards to her neck.

This time, her groan was one of utter bliss as she dropped her head forward to accommodate the impromptu massage. “Trev, that’s perfect.”

“Mmm,” he agreed, using the stream to methodically tenderise her chronically tense shoulders into something resembling melty goo.

Just when she’d almost forgotten the sexual tension, he ratcheted it back up by trailing the jet swiftly down her body, glancing across the full slope of her breasts in an almost offhand manner.

He reached down with his free hand to encourage her partially separated thighs farther apart.

Here head snapped up. “Trev…”

“Close your eyes.”

She reluctantly obeyed, also allowing her legs to part wantonly as the firm touch of the spray—feeling much like a questing finger—worked its way lower still. Target reached, the pulse hit squarely on her clit, almost sending her flying off the seat. Trevor moved the water back and forth, strumming across her rapidly engorging nub in a random pattern that left her gasping for air.

“Eyes closed.”

She hadn’t realised she’d opened them, hadn’t been able to focus on anything, but willingly followed the directive without delay as the tension coiling within her zoomed past anything bearable.

Tipping over the edge in a supernova of pleasure, she arched and writhed as colours flew behind her lids, coming as hard as she could ever remember. This time, when she squirmed away from the spray, it immediately turned to a gentle, caressing shower.

She sensed Trevor replacing the showerhead then gave herself over to his strength as he gathered her still uncoordinated form to his, his erection pressing unabated against her hip. The water ceased and she finally opened her eyes to meet his heated chocolate gaze.

“Wow,” she breathed, still trying to get her heart rate under control. The exhalation ended on a slight laugh. “I’m so glad I gave you a key.”

“Oh, you can still talk?” he parried. “I must not’ve done my job.” He walked her around the corner of the open shower onto the soft bathmat and grabbed a couple of towels. After drying himself in his normal slap-dash manner, he took his time drying her off, then swept her off her feet and carried her into the bedroom.

“Now, let’s see if I can make you speechless.”

Release Day for Falling for the Other Brother

My menage is out today at Total-E-Bound!

Erica had been planning to break it off with Trevor—he was really too young for her after all. But it's hard to use that excuse when the man she's really interested in is Trevor's twin, Colin.

Her biological clock ticking, a chance conversation leads Erica to Trevor, a former sperm donor, who helps convince her to move ahead with her plans. But he adamantly refuses to be her donor, in fact has pulled all his past donations, for a reason he won't discuss. Their subsequent relationship, while hot, just drives home the different goals the two have.

When Colin returns from overseas, his problem with intimacy still looming large, he never dreamt he would meet his ideal partner in Erica. Only two things stand in their way: her relationship with his brother, and the fact she wants children...the one thing he can no longer provide.

New Month and News

I love the start of the month...seems as if it's a clean slate to work with, especially when I come into it having crossed some biggies off the perpetual to-do list the month before.

My two manuscripts I was working on last month are done, and you'll be able to see both of them soon. One was my next release, Falling For the Other Brother, a sexy menage which comes out next week. (Sidenote--I have a release every other week for the next couple months! Feels great after the dry spell that was September.)

The other story, Making His List, aka "the puking kid story" for those of you who've been keeping up :), was contracted last week and will be out on December 1st as part of Dreamspinner's annual Advent Calendar and also as a single-sale novella. Here's the (unofficial) blurb:

Cory tried to end his casual fling with Ken when his troubled sister and young niece move in. Bailey's had enough upheaval in her short life, and he doesn't want her getting attached to someone who won't be sticking around. Yet against his will, Cory finds himself drawn to Ken--going back again and again. Even so, a one-night-stand gone serial isn't what Cory wants in a partner, so he makes The List--the requirements for his ideal man.

The only time Cory ever lets Ken get close is when they're in bed, otherwise he's kept at arm's length. But when a bout of the flu makes him an indispensible helper, Ken finds himself being pulled into the family unit. His hopes are high until, while helping Bailey with her list for Santa, he finds Cory's list. What he reads there hurts his pride and makes him turn his back on what is growing between them.

It's already a battle for their fragile relationship. Then Bailey disappears, and Cory needs Ken more than ever.
